The Opioid Safety Toolkit is a public health resource developed by Monash University Health Lab to educate clinicians and communities about safe opioid use. Our contribution focused on creating two fully animated explainers, each 5 to 6 minutes long, that translate complex medical information into clear and engaging visual narratives.
This project required a careful balance between accuracy, clarity, and sensitivity. The Opioid Safety Toolkit addresses a complex and critical subject, and the animations needed to support understanding without overwhelming the viewer. Our role was to transform detailed medical content into visual stories that feel approachable, structured, and easy to follow.
Working within an existing brand system, we focused on extending the visual language through motion rather than redefining it. We developed custom illustrations that matched the established style, ensuring consistency across the toolkit while introducing subtle refinements that improved legibility and visual flow.
Motion design was used deliberately and with restraint. Transitions, emphasis, and rhythm were designed to clarify relationships between ideas rather than distract from them. This approach helped maintain focus while adding visual interest and supporting comprehension across the full length of each video.
The final result is two complete educational animations that communicate critical health information with confidence and clarity. By combining illustration, motion, and narrative structure, the project enhances the accessibility of the Opioid Safety Toolkit and supports its broader goal of promoting safer opioid practices through informed understanding.
